It is no news that Sporting Lagos has parted ways with Coach Paul Offor. The club bid the tactician goodbye citing poor performances as the reason for the sack. This is questionable, but it is an article for another day. Abdullahi Biffo has been appointed as the new head coach with 8 games to go. Many fans are asking, is this a dangerous gamble that will send the club back to the NNL or is he the messiah the club has been waiting for? WHO IS ABDULLAHI BIFFO Abdullahi Biffo, a prominent figure in Nigerian football, has had a multifaceted career spanning both playing and coaching roles. Born on September 15, 1976, Biffo’s journey in the world of football began as a player before transitioning into coaching, where he has made significant strides. As a coach, Biffo has had stints in clubs like Giwa FC, Kogi United, Niger Tornadoes, Katsina United, and Kwara United. As the coach of Katsina United, he coached 82 games, won 34, drew 12 and lost 36. At Kwara United, he coached 96 games won 43, drew 18, and lost 35. A Dangerous Gamble or the Messiah Biffo certainly has the required experience to coach an NPFL team. Having coached average teams like Tourndoes, Kwara United, and Katsina, he is familiar with relegation battles and the need to play for the win. The question on the lips of every Sporting Lagos Fan is, can he achieve anything at this point of the season? He is new to the players, there are 8 matches to go, and the club still has to face league leaders Ranger International and Enyimba at home. Tough away fixtures like Shooting Stars, his former club Katsina United, and Caf Confederations Cup quarter-finalist Rivers United await the team. This is certainly a dangerous gamble as no one knows what to expect and everyone simply has to bury their heads in prayer hoping that the club will survive this season.
