The Agbowa Day Football Tournament continues to live up to its billing, passion, pride, and plenty of surprises. Matchday 2 in Agbowa served up another unforgettable contest as Mojere FC defied all odds to hold off a powerful Cyprus SA side in what turned out to be one of the most intense games of the tournament so far.

Heading into the fixture, the storyline seemed already written. Cyprus FC were the overwhelming favorites — a team known for their attacking flair and tournament experience. Many fans and punters predicted a walkover. But Mojere FC had different ideas.

From the first whistle, Mojere showed composure and determination. They refused to be intimidated, matching Cyprus tackle for tackle and play for play. Their discipline and hunger paid off midway through the first half when they took the lead from a well-worked corner kick. Amid confusion in the Cyprus defense, Olamilekan Anifowose pounced on a loose ball and fired home, sending the Mojere supporters into wild celebration.

1–0 to Mojere FC – and the underdogs were suddenly in command.

The second half brought even more drama. Cyprus SA came out stronger, determined to claw their way back into the game. Their persistence paid off when Oluwaseun capitalized on a defensive slip from Mojere’s backline, slotting the ball into the net to make it 1–1. The equalizer sent the Cyprus fans roaring, but it also lit a spark of tension in the stands.

Oluwaseun’s celebration didn’t go down well with sections of the Mojere faithful, who felt it was a taunt directed at them. Emotions flared, voices were raised, and for a brief moment, the match threatened to boil over. But that’s the beauty- and sometimes the madness -of Agbowa football: passion runs deep.

When the final whistle blew, both teams had given everything. Mojere FC may not have walked away with all three points, but they earned something far greater: respect. Against all odds, they stood tall against a Cyprus side that many thought would cruise through.

As fans poured out of the Agbowa pitch, still buzzing from the encounter, one thing was clear: Agbowa Day 2025 is only just getting started. If Matchday 2 brought this much intensity, then Matchday 3, which continues today, promises even more fireworks.

Stay tuned. The pride of Agbowa is on the line, and every game feels like a final. ⚽🔥
